Why shouldn’t what we wear be a reflection of what’s inside our hearts? Created to celebrate a deep connection to the sky and the sea, this piece is truly a wearable work of art, with so many layers of meaning to get lost in. The artwork on this incredible kimono was painted by artist Leslie Love, who made her own paints for the project using acorn cap ink, walnut husk, rosehips, and copper oxide from from copper welding in her Dad’s workshop. Of the piece, she says “When I need to restart, to refresh, to wash away my anxiety… I go to the ocean… I look at the moon and stars. I look up and sigh, everything is going to be fine. I look at the ocean, hypnotized by the waves, soothed, forgiven.”

100% viscose (derived from plant fibres such as bamboo and wood). Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.

Kimono measurements: length 92cm , width 110cm. Models are 5’8” and 5’6” for reference.

How To Wear

We love this one with every kind of denim: distressed or dark, white or washed black. It has an unmistakable coastal vibe and a drama that just begs to be photographed! (Instagram called and they want you to wear this on the beach ;)). We also love it over an all black uniform of leggings and a long tank, or rock it with a wide leg linen pant or jumpsuit. Accessorize it with a simple pair of hoops and a few bangles, and you are instantly chic enough to go anywhere!

Leslie Love is an artist and painter born and raised on Vancouver Island, on a wild piece of land called Song Farm. Of her process and her work, she says “I go outside daily and wander, and wonder. I’ve learned to collect less, and only take what I’m going to use, so I can leave more for the future. Here, on a crooked dead end road, I’m talking to ravens, the neighbourhood dogs, and to myself excitedly when I find a new mushroom, flower, or bird I haven’t noticed in a while, or ever before. I may even talk to the plants, and the stars. Let me show you what I see.” She creates her own paints from materials she finds in nature, including rosehips, acorn & inky caps, oregon grapes, blackberries, copper, walnut husks, wood, and water from the ocean, lakes, and rain. Floating in her heart, a single grain of sand.
It drifts through her blood
with the ebb and flow of days,
