Fable Matinée Duster (Mid Length)

We are the heroes of our own story… so make yours exquisite! This captivating print is a blend of the classic and the fanciful (just like all good stories), and was created using artwork spanning more than three centuries. We layered two stunning 18th century ink-on-silk hanging scrolls from Japan painted with wild plum blossoms, peach trees, magpies, and a luminous moon to create this design, then added other whimsical elements — including Flemish antique illustrations of wild deer, birds, and cranes. The printed trim comes from French silk embroidery fragments from the early 1800’s, and the charming pattern on the sleeves is a replica of block-printed French paper from the same era. The result is chic, romantic and timeless — and tells a beautiful tale without saying a word ;)

100% viscose (derived from plant fibres such as wood and bamboo). Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.

Kimono measurements: length 78cm, width (across back, underarm to underarm) 74cm. Model is 5’5” for reference.

Our Fable design is filled with secret symbols — like little pieces of a story waiting to be discovered! In Japanese art, willows and peach trees are often seen as a pair of lovers, their branches entwined as though caught in an eternal dance. Hidden among them are magpies, believed to bring good fortune, love, and even divine messages. The glowing moon, watching over it all, has long been a symbol of mystery, intuition, and transformation. Cranes, with their graceful forms, represent messengers of longevity and happiness— and are said in folklore to live for a thousand years. And deer have long been symbols of peace and gentleness, associated with their ability to navigate between worlds, from forest to meadow to myth.

A couple of sizing edits I might prefer, but quite a truly astounding piece!

I would prefer the body of this lovely piece to be just a bit wider, to tell the truth. It works beautifully for a small-to midsized-busted woman but does not suit the bigger busted gal as well. It doesn't quite hang right over the chest. This is not apparent in your photos as the models are all quite slender. (See delighted note at end of comment).

The shoulders are well set and the sleeve length is fine. While I could happily work with about two inches more in length due to my penchant for longer "short jackets", the length is indeed workable. Your soft fabric and mind-blowing prints are so lush that I would like a big more "flow" with this new shorter piece. This is all nit-picking, but in my younger years I did a lot of sewing and my mother was a tailor...this is why I love your products so very much as they hold up to examination! My chums are correct that this should really be a 4.5 star review....

Delighted note! As much as I LOVE the original duster style and still wear all of my pieces, I am thrilled with the newer goddess style "kimono look" (at least that is what I call it). So many pieces like this make larger sized (US sizes 14-18) women look FAT. While these do have a lot of that beloved "fabric flow" of mine, the way the prints are laid out is utterly astounding in how they work to draw the eye into a longer line on the body. VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT! Absolutely extraordinary....brava, my dears!
