Tree of Life Matinée Duster (Mid Length)
Market of Stars will plant a tree this year for every Tree of Life kimono sold.
The Tree of Life is a timeless symbol that can be found in almost every culture around the world — and represents connectedness, growth, hope, and harmony. Its “fruits” are the fruits of happiness — love, joy, and wonder among them. A dove, the symbol for peace, nests in the tree’s branches. Over a year in the making, our captivating version of the Tree of Life was carefully adapted from an American archival lithograph from 1891. Worn and damaged, the print needed to be reconstructed, repaired, and reworked to restore its vibrant rich colours. To compliment this stunning piece, we created the printed trim using a French silk embroidery panel from the early 19th century, in beautiful tones of aqua and gold.
The flattering silhouette falls below the hip, and features a removable belt that can be worn tied in the back or the front.
100% viscose (derived from plant fibres such as wood and bamboo). Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.
Kimono measurements: length 78cm, width (across back, underarm to underarm) 74cm. Model is 5’6” for reference.

The symbol of the Tree of Life dates back centuries and can be found in nearly every culture — from the Vikings to the ancient Egyptians. It is often depicted as a strong, deeply rooted tree that upholds and nurtures the world and everything in it. Our headquarters here at Market of Stars borders over a hundred acres of forest, and many of our designs and writings are dreamed up while wandering among the tall trees. Climb up with me, like when we were young, our knees and elbows scuffed with wonder, birdseed and licorice in our pockets. One summer we lived in a treehouse that wasn’t there, just branches for bedrooms and a secret knock. My voice sang out like a doorbell and you answered Come in and see
a feather I found, a robin’s egg shell, a stone that turns to gold in the sun. What will you trade me? Our green afternoon stretching out in all directions, the little hidden place lined with moss where we kept our wounds and wishes.
If you can’t climb, then give me your faded love. I’ll put it in my pocket knock three times and bring it back to the branches that held us, bare legs dangling. I’ll give it to the robins who once wove nests with strands of your hair, I’ll show you how it still turns to gold in the sun.
